Cultural differences can limit access to services and subsequent intervention — the community has to realise this. Nevertheless, much domestic violence in Asian communities falls under the radar because the women concerned are afraid to report the abuse, leaving them vulnerable to further physical and mental torture. Some Asian women are afraid that reporting the abuse will discredit their family. Instead of going to work, I packed my bags and left home. I went to the family and my sister was so shocked to see me.

Hopscotch Asian Women’s Centre
Individually tailored and culturally sensitive employability support for disadvantaged BAME women in London. Range of interventions to support members of the Bangladeshi community in Camden. Supporting young Asian women to help them build confidence, empower, learn new skills and make friends. If you feel intimidated by or frightened of your partner or a family member or if you know of anyone in that situation.
Currently the AWRC assists on average 3, women and children every year experiencing domestic abuse, free of charge, through the services offered, historically, the Centre has reached out to and supported more than 4, women and their children each year, however we have had to reduce these numbers due to funding cuts to the organisation. It is our aim to prevent domestic abuse by helping women and children to receive essential, practical and emotional support in the future, so that they can re- build their lives, with the appropriate funding and financial support being achieved. The board of trustees and staff are working hard on their fundraising strategy to raise funds to the organisation in order to reach out to more vulnerable and disadvantaged women and children in the future.
